The Idox Transport reporting package is very flexible and allows users to configure and run system based reports.
Customising - Idox Transport does not believe in a 'Standard Set' of reports. Every authority has different congestion problems, different areas to focus on and different needs from their UTMC system. Idox Transport's engineers will work with the West Midlands Authorities to ensure that one or one hundred reports are designed, set up and used in the management of the transport network. These will then form the 'Standard Oxfordshire Reports' and the 'Standard Town Centre Reports'.
These customised reports will be saved for the system partners to use, however reports manager will also allow users to create their own reports after Idox Transport has finished the system install.

Security & Roles - The reports package has a number of roles associated with it. A user with the "Browser" role can view folders, reports and subscribe to reports. A Content Manager can manage the folders, reports, resources and other content within the system. Other roles given in the screen short allow further refinement of a user's capabilities through their security profile.
Technology - The Idox Transport reporting engine is based on the Microsoft SQL Reporting Services. SQL Server Reporting Services supports a wide range of common data sources, such as OLE DB and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), as well as multiple output formats such as familiar Web browsers and Microsoft Office System applications. Using Microsoft .NET Framework, Idox Transport can leverage the capabilities of the UTMC common database and connect to custom data sources, produce additional output formats, and deliver to a variety of devices.
The capabilities of the Idox Transport Reporting Services include: Report authoring - Administrators can create reports to be published to a report server by using Microsoft or other design tools.
Report management - Report definitions, folders, and resources are published and managed as a Web service. Managed reports can be executed either on demand or on a specified schedule, and are cached for consistency and performance. Administrators can use Argonaut to organise reports and data sources, schedule report execution and delivery, and track reporting history.
Defining report history:
Report delivery - Argonaut Reporting Services supports both on-demand (pull) and event-based (push) delivery of reports. Users can view reports in a Web-based format or in email.
Report security - Argonaut Reporting Services implements a flexible, role based security model to protect reports and reporting resources. The product includes extensible interfaces for integrating other security models as well.
Enterprise reporting - Argonaut can use Reporting Services for their operational reporting or business intelligence applications. Using Reporting Services, corporate IT staff can design a variety of reports and deploy them to individuals throughout the enterprise.
Viewing report categories:
Ad-hoc reporting - Argonaut Reporting Services includes Report Builder, a new ad-hoc reporting tool that enables business users to create their own reports and explore corporate data. Report Builder incorporates a user-friendly business query model that enables users to build reports without deep technical understanding of the underlying data sources.
Embedded reporting - Argonaut can access predefined or ad hoc reports from key screens applications that use Reporting Services and use these reports as-is, customise them, or create new ones for specific business needs.
Web-based reporting - Argonaut can deploy interactive Web-based reports to deliver information to Traffic Managers and Engineers extranets or the Internet. Reporting Services isolates report users from the complexity of the underlying data sources, while providing personalisation and interactivity.
Report Generation - Using the Idox Transport Argonaut Reports Service, any number of reports can be generated and displayed to the user.
Storage & Retrieval - The Argonaut Reporting Services has a range of feature rich, simple to use functions.
Copies of all reports are stored on the Argonaut server. The user can easily access the report by clicking and bringing up a copy of the report. Reports older than 12 months or when capacity on the server has been reached can be stored on a high capacity network attached storage device attached to the network. There would be no loss in speed or recovery of data and the data would remain available through the existing interface.
Grouping - In addition reports can be grouped and managed in a directory tree structure, with no limit to the number of directories or depth of the directories. This would allow reporting sections for managers and engineers to be configured and stored separately. An example screen shot is given below:
Caching - If a report is particularly well used, it can be cached in the system for a number of minutes. This will prevent unnecessary load being placed on the server and a near instant response time to the user. The properties for a report are shown in the screen shot below:
Exporting - The reports are generated using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. As a result there is full integration with the Microsoft suite of products including Microsoft Excel.
In addition to Excel, reports can be exported in to XML (including all report data), MS Word, CSV, TIFF and PDF.
Report Formats - The Idox Transport system can generate reports based on any or all data that resides inside the common database. Using standard templates defined in advance, reports can be produced and viewed in tabular and graphical format. The analytical data service will allow manipulation of historic information in a variety of formats including graph and text formats which allows for easy data comparison. The graphical formats will include:
- Graphs - 2D & 3D (dimension)
- Pie Charts
- Histograms - 2D & 3D (dimension)
...and many other formats currently supported by MS Excel.
Full printing facilities are available and the report is printed the same as it is shown on the screen.
Scheduling - Reports can be scheduled to happen daily, weekly, monthly, templates saved, copies of the reports saved for later retrieval and the data can be exported in to Excel format.
In addition schedules can be ad hoc for a specific report or use a system wide predefined report schedule.
When defining a schedule for a specific report, it is possible to select the type of export the user would like. This includes the sending of emails with the report included as an attachment.
